A Station Wagon Is Not a Mom-Mobile, North America

Alright Yanks and Canucks, when was the last time you saw a family in a station wagon? It's likely been decades. How is a station wagon a family car and mom-mobile if families and mothers have abandoned them?

Stop that. I like getting hipster-boner when I look at my 5 door hatch and think "it's almost a wagon. How lame. How ironic. I'm so clever." Don't take that joy away.

Like the old restaurant joke: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

Full disclosure: sold a minivan and bought a wagon 2 months ago.

You have a point. They have been replaced by newer forms of Mom Mobile. When I grew up 4 kids was a small family.

There's something I've been wanting to do, but I don't have the time to do it right now.

The premise would be to start a Kickstarter with the intent to purchase an old station wagon (make/model undetermined), and fund a cross country family roadtrip visiting at least one major landmark in each of the 48 contiguous states. If there was enough funds, I would also include all the Canadian provinces as well as an Al-Can trek to visit Alaska.

You are preaching to the quire partner. There is nothing I like more than a good station wagon, and when it comes to wagon style, no one did it better than us Yanks in the 50's and 60's

My parents still have a early 80s Mercury Colony Park in this same color scheme that now does Home Depot duty. It's the car I grew up in and is still running strong on the original engine/trans.

I've never seen it. I'm convinced one doesn't exist. SUV's rule that territory.

I see tons of Volvo and Subaru wagons filled with children. This is in Maine.

Although "quire" looks like a neat word - it's Choir my friend. Choir. Unless you're preaching to a stack of papers? I mean, if you are, it's none of my damn business!

My family gets driven around in a Passat wagon, and it also does daily-driver duty for my wife. Most people in this area with wagons (A4 Avants, Volvos, and older Subarus are common) are driving their kids around, as well. The "almost wagons" like the Mazda 5 are popular here as well.
